Celebrate our nation’s sesquicentennial with a show that pokes fun at all things Canadian.

Canada Day may have come and gone, but you can celebrate our homeland’s 150th birthday all summer long with the Vancouver TheatreSports League’s latest show: Oh, Canada – The True North Strong and Funny.

Foreigners may have some crazy misconceptions about Canada (just check out VTSL’s YouTube series Actual Questions About Canada Asked by Tourists), but we Canucks know that Canada is way more than beer, poutine and sexy lumberjacks – although to be clear, we are not complaining about any of those. From Lorne Michaels to Dan Aykroyd to Mike Meyers, we’re a nation with a rich comedic heritage.

With Oh, Canada, VTSL pays homage to great Canadian comedy with a series of improv games that mock iconic Canadian institutions like Anne of Green Gables, Heritage Minutes, the Mounties, our obsession with hockey, a certain hunky Prime Minister, maple syrup and Timmy’s double-double … just to name only a few of the possibilities. As in all VTSL shows, the plot, characters and action are co-developed with the audience – so no two shows are the same.

Oh, Canada – The True North Strong and Funny runs every Thursday through Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. from June 29 to September 2. All shows take place at The Improv Centre on Granville Island. Tickets start from as low as $10 and are available online.

If you miss this show, you’ll be sorry.
