Tom Ford’s “A Single Man” opens on Christmas day.

When news broke that former Gucci golden boy Tom Ford was going to swap fashion for film and adapt the classic queer novel, A Single Man by Christopher Isherwood, people were skeptical. But a Venice Film Festival Best Actor award and three Golden Globe nominations later, critics are turning their heads and adoring what could go down as one of the best gay films in history.

Tom Ford brings the story of a gay English professor coping with the sudden loss of his longtime partner to the silver screen with the impeccable style we’d expect from him. Stylish costumes, gorgeous production design (from the team behind Mad Men) and beautiful cinematography; paired with performances that netted both Colin Firth and Julianne Moore Golden Globe nominations (as well as a little Oscar buzz) make this a film not to be missed this holiday season.
