COLD COMFORT

COLD COMFORT

La Glace brings a certain je ne sais quoi to Vancouver’s ice cream scene.

Hopefully, you made it through another Pride with only a few minor inconveniences — nothing a few Advils or a trip to the free clinic can’t clear up.

And now that we’re basking in the afterglow, you can turn your attention to something you might have studiously ignored while on your Pride diet: ice cream!

With temperatures high and air quality low, a frozen treat could really hit the spot about now. We made our way over to the West Side to sample the wares at La Glace, the city’s newest French-style creamery opened by pastry chef Mark Tagulao (pictured).

Made in-house using only cream, egg yolks and sugar, French glace is less aerated than its North American counterpart, making for a denser, richer treat. The oh-so-Parisian-styled boutique highlights this culinary miracle with a rotating roster of flavours, including a decadent Valrhona chocolate Ganache, vanilla Crème de la Crème, Bananes Foster and Café à la Lavande. Unlike the French, though, La Glace also serves vegan options with three dairy-free flavours: Chocolat à la Menthe, Chocohuète (peanut butter and dark chocolate and Coco Pandan (pandan-infused coconut cream).

So, it’s like healthy, right?

However you look at it, La Glace’s ice cream is hot!
