FRESH MEAT

Boutique butcher shop Pete’s Meat opens in Kits.
When we heard about Pete’s Meat, the new boutique butcher shop and delicatessen, we just had to check it out — if only for its cheeky name. But stepping into the spotless, white-tiled storefront on Abutus St. at 12th Ave., it’s obvious that its namesake, butcher (and tatted-up hottie) Peter Jenney, is serious about his trade.
Jenney cut his teeth at West Van’s Windsor Meats before carving out his own niche with non-medicated, hormone-free or certified organic beef, pork, lamb and poultry as well as his specialty: handmade sausages such as bison with blueberry and thyme, chicken chipotle cilantro and lime, and Morrocan lamb with saffron and mango chutney.
Looking for a quick bite? Chef Dylan Hansen’s small deli menu boasts revolving daily specials, five-alarm garlic-and-bacon chili made in-store and an overstuffed grilled Reuben (pictured) that’s quickly garnering a cult following in the ‘hood.
And why not? Who doesn’t love a good piece of meat?
