Dine with friends or make new ones at the Irish Heather’s Long Table Series.

Gastown’s (not so) best-kept secret has been the Irish Heather’s Long Table Series. Each night at 6 pm a crowd of hungry diners get together at the communal family table to enjoy a classic comfort dish (along with a tasty adult beverage) for a ridiculously low price of $15 – 17. Reservations are a must and most nights sell out, but we were lucky enough to snag a few seats recently and can pass on some words of sage advice.

STEP 1: Check http://ltsmenu.blogspot.com/ for a night with a menu you like. Braised Lamb Shank with Roasted Vegetables perhaps?

STEP 2: Email sean@irishheather.com for reservations.

STEP 3: Arrive early and grab a drink at the adjoining Shebeen Whiskey House. Scope out the cutest guys.

STEP 4: When the 6 pm call comes to take your seats at the table, conveniently sit next to said cute guys.

STEP 5: Meet your hot new friends. As the web site says, “you may not know the folks beside you, but you will within 10 minutes.”

It’s that easy. But if it doesn’t work out for you, don’t worry, you can always come back next week and try again with the Smoked Pork Chop with Bacon Braised Cabbage.
