GET A CLOUGH

GET A CLOUGH

Get shaken, stirred and muddled at Gastown’s newest cocktail tavern, The Clough Club.

Looking to upgrade from your usual vodka soda? Then Gastown’s newest watering hole, The Clough Club (pronounced “Clue” Club) should be at the top of your list. Named for John Clough, the neighbourhood’s boozy, 19th-century jailer and lamplighter, the bar menu mixes classic, dark-spirit cocktails (think Sazeracs, Vieux Carrés, and Old Hickorys) with modern libations from the world’s top barmen (The Vellocet by New Orleans’ Kirk Estopinal, Wax Poetic by Victoria’s Simon Ogden, and The Ogden by local bar star Jay Jones).

Keeping to the theme, the club’s bright front bar and much darker, sexier back bar — and the hallway connecting them — are tricked out in an old-meets-new-world style by Vancouver’s hottest restaurant designer, Craig Stanghetta (Bao Bei, Meat and Bread, Revolver). Tumbled marble floors give way to acid-etched mirrors, rusting tin wall panels, tufted leather banquettes and — most impressive — a green neon “tunnel” (pictured) created with two-way mirrors.

The Clough Club is such a find, you’re going to thank us for clueing you in.
