NEW GUU

The only better thing than finding a diamond in the rough, is when that diamond serves tempura green been fries.
Amidst the chaos and construction that has enveloped Nelson Square, the brand new (and well-hidden) Guu Garden offers some much needed Zen. The room features rock gardens, beautiful natural woods, all with a modern twist.
While the menu offers much of what you would expect from an izakaya, it also offers an extensive Oden menu – single-serving bowls of miso soup with your choice of toppings. You can try everything from a free-range egg ($1.5) to octopus ($4) to pork belly ($4).
Half of the adventure of eating at Guu Garden is actually finding it. Look for a stairwell on east side of Hornby Street between Nelson and Helmcken, then follow your nose. Once you’ve found it, feel free to reward yourself with their “construction special” of pitchers of Sapporo for $13.99.
