With internationally renowned competitive baristas like Prado Café’s Sammy Piccolo and Caffè Artigiano’s Kyle Straw manning machines across the city and more Starbucks per capita than any other major metropolitan area after Washington, D.C., it’s pretty clear that Vancouverites love their coffee.

But we might be ready to turn over a new leaf now that society-hostess-turned-celebrity-tea-blender Tracy Stern has opened Canada’s first Salontea location on South Granville in the former Picnic location next to Meinhardt’s. The New York-based chain of tearooms has developed a cult following as much for its “apothecary” of a dozen plus estate-blended teas that feature top-quality botanicals, herbs and spices, as for it’s bright tea-sipping salons, which boast more ornate porcelain teapots than you can shake a teaspoon at.

And with Meinhardt’s providing all the delicious baked goods, from pastries to macarons, Salontea may well prove a cup above the rest.
