CAMPAGNOLO

Rustic authentic Italian fare served just outside the comfy confines of downtown.
1020 Main St.
Vancouver, BC
Campagnolo (brought to you by the boys behind the award-winning Fuel Restaurant in Kitsilano) sits on a less-than-trendy strip of Main St. surrounded by desolate deserted buildings, backpacker hostels and the Ivanhoe Hotel – infamous for its cheap beer and even cheaper clientele.
In contrast, Campagnolo is simple and stylish, serving up delicious rustic Italian fare in a chic modern room highlighted by exposed concrete walls and old-growth fir beams. It’s an odd fit for its neighborhood, yet thanks to its understated elegance it doesn’t stand out. In fact, if you aren’t paying attention you could easily pass it by.
Despite it’s modern minimal design, Campagnolo is warm and welcoming – and the food is well worth a trip outside downtown’s comfy confines. The well-priced menu includes a selection of starters, in-house cured meats, handmade pizzas and pasta, and main courses. The octopus salad ($10) is a must-try, as is the tagliarini with a braised-pork ragu ($15) and the Salsiccia pizza ($12) served with housemade sausage, fresh arugula, chilis and Parmesan.
The wine list is mostly Italian, but don’t be afraid to ask for a recommendation – those Fuel boys know their wines.
