LA BRASSERIE

The only place on Davie St. to get ambiance, a great wine list and steak tartare.
1091 Davie Street
Vancouver, BC
La Brasserie may be the best thing to pop up on Davie Street since … well, I’m sure you can find something to fill in the blank. It’s a less-than-formal Franco-German bistro with the buzz of a French café, mixed with the subtle nuance of a fine dining experience.
The beer and wine list is stellar – don’t be afraid to experiment with something different as the pricing allows you to frolic to your heart’s content. Considering their wines are mostly French, and their beers mostly German, experimentation may have to be accepted as a matter of course.
The Alsatian Onion Tart ($8) may be the most life-altering dish on the menu, although the Steak Tartare ($8) is a close second. For the mains, you can’t go wrong with the Steak Onglet & Frites ($18), the Roast Suckling Pig ($18) or the Free Range Rotisserie Chicken ($17).
La Brasserie doesn’t take reservations, but you can hang out at the bar whilst you wait and enjoy a glass of wine or three.
