BIG BANG THEORY

Five fabulous spots to view the Celebration of Light.

4500155.home

Every year, in a glorious riot of Ed Hardy T-shirts and too-short short shorts, the bridge-and-tunnel hordes funnel into the most densely populated peninsula in North America to watch things explode at the Honda Celebration of Light.

If you love the fireworks but hate the crowds, if you want a front-row seat but can’t afford an English Bay penthouse, if you want to enjoy a cocktail but don’t want to drink it out of a plastic cup or a paper bag — then these viewing spots are for you:

DINE ABOVE THE STARS
On Wed, Aug. 1 A Loving Spoonful hosts this annual fundraiser at the Coast Plaza Hotel (1763 Comox St.) with a five-course meal, wine pairings by Blasted Church Vineyards and emcee Fred Lee. Tickets $140 (with $80 tax receipt) available online.

THE BOATHOUSE
Enjoy a three-course meal at the Boathouse (1795 Beach Ave.) then make your way to a private English Bay grandstand for the big show. $85 and up. Email bheb@ldry.com or call 604-669-2225 for reservations.

CACTUS CLUB
Iron Chef Rob Feenie is offering a set, three-course menu at what might be the best bservation area in the city on the Cactus Club English Bay’s beachfront patio. $120 including tax and gratuity, not including beverages.Call 604-714-2060 for reservations.

THE KEG LOUNGE
