Just because the Olympics are here doesn’t mean you are allowed to forget about Auntie Joan’s favourite fundraisers!

The world is on our doorstep and in the next weeks a lot of you will all be asked questions where to go in GLBT Vancouver. I thought I would take this opportunity to offer some ideas that have a fundraising component to them. After all, while we celebrate the Olympics, the less fortunate and those who bravely battle life-threatening illnesses, still need our help!

Wednesday evenings is “Bingo for Life” at Celebrities Nightclub. The show starts at 8:30 pm and the funds are raised through donations at the door. I have been proud to host this event for the last 14 years and the crowds have raised over a quarter of a million dollars for the Vancouver Friends for Life Society. If you are interested in donating prizes, you can email me!

The Odyssey Nightclub hosts the “Faux Girls” show every Wednesday at 11:30 pm, which benefits the Dogwood Monarchist Society (DMS). The cover is $3.00 and all proceeds benefit the Health Initiative for Men, Out on Screen and QMunity.

The DMS is also throwing Coronation 39 “Higher, Faster, Stronger” on Saturday March 13th at the Empire Landmark Hotel. Tickets are $60 and includes entry to the official after party at Celebrities featuring international DJ sensations The Perry Twins. More information is available at www.dogwoodmonarchistsociety.org.

Enjoy this magical time in Vancouver. It is truly a wonderful time to be here and i look forward to seeing many of you out on the town!
