SHE’S A JEM
Lady Jem’s bi-monthly gay party at the Cobalt goes totally ’80s.
It didn’t take long for those East Van homos to pick up the mantle laid down by Isolde N. Barron after she shuttered Apocalypstick!, her Sunday drag nights at the Cobalt.
Stepping into Isolde’s stilettos is Miss Cobalt herself, Lady Jem, who’s filling the campy gap with the bi-monthly Jem Jam. And girl is up to the challenge, backed up by two spankin’ new East Side gals, Mia Girlfriend and Betty Swallows.
This week’s Dy-Nasty event (poster pictured) will see Lady Jem’s ’80s time warp replaying all your favourites from the decade of big hair and shoulder pads with a prize going to the person whose outfit best encapsulates the period. Also, look out for Jem’s great new party game, “Bust’d Drag,” where a volunteer gets a fifteen-minute drag makeover and then lip-synchs on stage to one of three ’80s hits.
It’s gonna be truly, truly, truly outrageous!
